Commercial and Residential Inspection Services

Evan Hughes and his blog (Owner Colorado Pro Inspect):

2/27/2008 - "Hello everyone, this is my first entry into this blog. What I am going to talk about today is home inspection pricing. I have recently been looking over some of my competition's web sites and noticed how many of them do not offer there customers posted pricing. I understand that many companies like to price home inspections on a individual basis and this can be a very lucrative way to sell your service, but in my opinion also kinda sneaky. As I stated earlier I just visited a competitors site and they had a whole page about how cheaper priced inspections or one man operations can possibly lead a buyer into trouble. This is complete and total nonsense. One of the most prized rewards to working with an individual instead of a corporation is the customer service that the client receives........have you ever tried to get someone on the phone at your credit card company? This sort of thing should never happen at a small company. The other "advice" some of the bigger inspection companies like to tell you is to never use a home inspector who offers you a low price. They say that this inspector may be new, or inexperienced, and that they are probably not in it for the long haul. I flatly disagree with these statements also. The inspection is basically someone buying my time and knowledge regarding a particular subject, and then a report reflecting that knowledge. Granted, the training, expertise and cost required to do this job successfully is significant, but it still boils down to time and knowledge. My point is that how much is your time worth to you? My time can be worth alot, but for others it may not be worth that much, or maybe it is worth a great deal more, that is where the large price discrepancies come in. Having a low price means absolutely nothing as far as the knowledge and competence of the inspector. I occasionally offer discounted inspections throughout the year and my #1 reason is to draw new realtors to me. I can not tell you the number of times I have done a "cheap inspection" for a new realtor only to have that realtor tell me that I not only did a better job than his high priced inspector, but I am cheaper to do business with. Those realtors are now using me exclusively. I also believe that there are some inspection companies that do cut corners. That sort of behavior is unacceptable as it casts a negative light on the whole industry. I believe that my pricing structure is "middle of the road", but I do believe strongly in posting our pricing up front, with no hidden fees. My best advice in choosing a home inspector is looking for a properly certified inspector, and ask as many questions as you need to feel comfortable. I believe that after you talk to a few different inspectors you will know who is right for you, regardless of price. "

3/15/2008 - " Hey, today I want to tell people the exciting news. We implemented our new computer generated reporting system yesterday and it went great. I now have the ability to provide my clients with pictures of issues and pictures of there new home. It provides a far superior end product than the previous reporting system I was using. The possibilities are endless. You can get your report onsite, through email, or on a CD-Rom. I think that we are moving to a new level of precision and professionalism. I will have a sample report up on this site in the next few days. Please take a look at it and tell me what you think. We are also moving into mold inspections now and look forward to providing this additional service as well as all of the other "different types" of inspections we already offer. I look forward to showing each and every one of you the exciting new services. It is going to be a great year.
